The Week's Classifieds

Intake ran to thirty-one listings this week, which is six over the column. Six did not run. Two were over the word count and the sellers would not cut, one was written on the back of a church bulletin in pencil that had gone to smear, one was for a business that does not have an address, and two came in without the fee, which is posted on the glass and has not changed. The fee is four dollars, exact change, in the slot by the Mailroom door. I do not make change and I do not run credit. Listings close Wednesday at four.

FOR SALE

1971 Chevrolet C10, long bed, straight six. New alternator, put in by Hoyt Dabney at the station on Gallatin Pike, receipt in the glovebox. Second gear is a suggestion. Bed rusted through above the passenger side wheel well. $1,150 and I will not haggle. Ask for Dorsey after six.

Chest freezer, twenty cubic feet, runs cold. Smells like venison and always will. $60. You carry it up the stairs yourself.

Twelve boxes ceramic wall tile, seafoam green, enough for one bathroom and part of a hall. $25 the lot.

One year, 1983, complete and lightly used. Seller had it already and would like it back. Will trade for cash, or for any year between 1962 and 1968. Will not separate the months. $400 or best offer.

Upright piano, Kimball, middle C dead, needs tuning. Free to anyone who can get it out of the den without taking the doorframe.

Storm windows, aluminum, eleven of them, sized for a house on Douglas Avenue that came down in 1988. Seller will come measure yours and says the windows will fit. $90 for all eleven.

Tandem axle utility trailer, wood deck, lights work, no title. $300.

Working key to a door the seller declines to name. Standing ad, running since 1951. Price on request. Sold twice, returned twice, and the seller has asked me to note that both returns were voluntary and in good condition.

WANTED

Wanted, anyone who remembers the layout of the Woolworth's lunch counter, specifically which side the pie case stood on. Twenty dollars for a drawing. Accuracy will be checked against something and the buyer did not say what.

Wanted, established honeybee hive. Will pick up.

Wanted, the second half of a conversation that took place in the parking lot of the Krystal on Dickerson Pike sometime in August. Buyer has the first half and says it does not make sense alone. Will pay fifty dollars.

LOST AND FOUND

Lost, brindle hound, answers to Dixie, collar with a number that rings a house on Ewing Drive. Last seen near the culvert. Reward offered, no questions.

Lost, a Thursday. Owner is not certain which Thursday and says that is part of the problem. Reward offered, no questions.

Found, ring of six keys and a bottle opener, gravel lot behind the Mailroom. Describe them and they are yours.

Found, hearing aid, left ear, in the lot at the grocery on Trinity Lane. Describe to claim.

SERVICES

Mowing, hauling, gutters cleaned. Reasonable rates. Ask for Lester.

Stump grinding. I own the machine, so I am cheaper than the man who rents one.

Piano tuning. Thirty-five dollars, two weeks out, and I will tell you honestly if the instrument is worth it.

Corrections from last week: the deep freeze listed at $80 was listed at $80 and the seller now says $60, which is a price change and not a correction, and the change costs another four dollars. She paid it. The hound listed as Dixie was listed as Dixis. That one was mine.

Ledger balanced Friday at ten past five. Thirty-one in, six out, twenty-five run. Two of the six never paid and four took the fee back at the window. One hundred four dollars in the box, counting Tuesday's price change.
